….you might like to hear (from our Technology Manager):
We should upgrade the disks in the server which will cost £500.00. This is because at the moment, if a disk fails (the most likely part to fail) the server will stop working and staff will be unable to work. It will then take 1-2 days to repair the server (as long as we have a backup). We estimate the loss to the business due to server failure, staff downtime and lost sales to be approximately £25,000 per day whilst the server is not working.
We should install another backup battery power supply which will cost £200.00 because at the moment if there is a power “blip” this could cause the server to stop working, which would mean staff will be unable to work. It will then take 1-2 days to repair the server. We estimate the loss to the business due to server failure, staff downtime and lost sales to be approximately £25,000 per day whilst the server is not working.
We should install a new processor and more memory in the server which will cost £1000.00. By doing this, 20 staff members won’t have to wait 10 minutes every morning to log onto their desktops. 20 staff members times 10 minutes a day is approximately 860 hours lost per year – or a half time member of staff per year or £15,000 per annum saved.
